In labs, clinics, and companies around the world, an amazing revolution in our understanding of life has taken place. This revolution makes the news nearly every day and has dramatically changed the way medicine is practiced, but the headlines often seem mysterious and scary.
Today, discoveries are made at such a dizzying pace that even scientists—let alone the public—can barely keep up. Providing up-to-date research on key issues in the field of biology, the six-volume Genetics and Evolution set highlights how genetics and evolution are drawn together in a powerful way. Putting things into perspective, these accessible, full-color books fill an important niche by connecting the history of scientific ideas and methods to their impact on today’s research-as well as looking at how these sciences are likely to shape science and society in the future.
Developmental Biology
Developmental Biology is a guided tour of humankind’s embryological journey. It examines not only the embryo but also the triumphs and tribulations of biologists—from the earliest history of embryology to the latest theories in this fascinating field. Bringing readers up to date with current research on the topic, this new volume explores everything from stem cell regeneration to developmental mechanisms across evolutionary time scales.

Evolution
This new book examines the immense impact evolution has had on society and on modern medicine—including the birth of genetic science in the early 1900s and the discovery that genes were made of DNA in the 1950s.

Genetic Engineering
Genetic Engineering traces the history of genetic science up to the present day and proposes some thoughts about how it is likely to affect the future. This engaging new resource describes some of the developments in the first few years of the 21st century and how society is coping with some of the ethical challenges that accompany them. This insightful resource helps put things into perspective and gives an idea of the risks involved in genetic engineering.

Human Genetics
What does it mean to be human? Human Genetics explores this compelling topic through a variety of perspectives. Coverage includes studies of human molecules that have been applied in some fascinating ways, for example to solve historical mysteries, and how modern doctors try to identify the factors that make the body healthy or sick.

Future of Genetics
The Future of Genetics considers where research in genetics, molecular biology, and medicine is headed while trying to cleanly separate facts from fiction and ideologies. This new volume explores the last 150 years and how different strands of biological research have become interwoven to create a new kind of interdisciplinary science. It also focuses on some of the most fascinating questions that scientists pose about the future, including the causes of aging and death, the nature of the brain and mind.

The Molecules of Life The Molecules of Life explains how the chemistry and physics of organic molecules drive processes within cells and permit the construction of amazingly complex plants and animals. Describing some of the basic concepts needed to understand the field and discussing the methods used to explore the structures and behavior of DNA, RNA, and proteins. The Molecules of Life shows how and why scientists study biological molecules, including how they are built, how they interact with each other, and what roles they play in the lives of cells and organisms.
